Artificial Green Wall Systems
An artificial green wall is a modular planting system built from UV-stable polyethylene foliage mounted on a rigid grid backing. It gives a wall the density and depth of a living wall without irrigation, drainage, growing medium, or maintenance — which is why it is now the default specification for hotel lobbies, retail feature walls, office receptions, event backdrops, and exterior facades where living planting cannot be kept alive.
This page covers how the systems are built, which format to choose, and how to specify one for a project. If you already know what you need, go straight to wholesale pricing and ordering or request a free sample panel.
What Makes Up an Artificial Green Wall
Every system has three layers, and each one determines how the wall performs:
- Foliage — moulded PE leaves and stems, colour-matched across batches. Density is measured by how much backing shows through at one metre; trade grades hide the grid completely.
- Backing — a rigid grid that holds the stems at a fixed angle and lets panels interlock edge to edge. A flimsy backing sags in the middle of a large run and shows seams under grazing light.
- Fixings — screws, clips, cable ties, or a timber batten frame. The fixing method, not the panel, usually decides how quickly a wall goes up.
Panels are supplied pre-assembled. On site they are trimmed with a utility knife, interlocked, and fixed — a two-person team covers roughly 20–30 m² per day on a flat wall.
Panel Formats: Ready Stock vs Made to Order
We run two formats because the trade buys in two different ways. Small orders and sample-stage projects need panels this week; production runs need a specific foliage mix at container volume.
| Format | Coverage per panel | Minimum order | Dispatch | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50 × 50 cm (G717 series, 34 designs) | 0.25 m² | 1 panel | 5 working days | Trial walls, small feature areas, installers who order per project |
| 100 × 100 cm (1M series) | 1 m² | 50 m² per design | 10–15 working days after order and specification approval | Production runs, facades, multi-floor installations |
Four 50 × 50 cm panels make exactly 1 m². Both formats use the same interlocking edge, so a wall can mix them — ready-stock panels to close out an area quickly, production panels for the main field.
Three Construction Types, and When Each One Wins
| Type | How it works | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|
| Modular panel | Rigid grid-backed squares, interlocked on site | You need speed, replaceable sections, and a flat finish — the default for 90% of commercial walls |
| Framed system | Panels mounted into an aluminium or timber frame that stands off the wall | The wall is uneven, the installation is free-standing, or services run behind the greenery |
| Roll / mesh | Foliage on a flexible mesh, rolled and hung | Curved surfaces, temporary event work, or very tight budgets where density matters less |
Indoor and Outdoor Are Not the Same Product
The single most common specification error is using an indoor panel outdoors. Indoor foliage has no UV stabiliser, and in direct sun it visibly shifts colour within a single season.
Outdoor lines use PE with the UV stabiliser compounded into the granules before extrusion — not sprayed on afterwards — and are tested under SGS 4,000-hour UV exposure. Outdoor panels carry a 3-year anti-fade warranty; indoor panels carry 5 years. For facade and canopy work where sun exposure is extreme, tell us the region and we will confirm the material grade in writing. Full detail sits on the outdoor UV-resistant green wall page.
Fire performance works the same way: standard UV panels carry no fire classification. Selected lines are available in fire-retardant constructions tested to EN 13501-1, with the test report supplied against the ordered SKU. We do not use fire rating as a headline claim — it is a parameter you confirm for your building, not a marketing hook. See fire-retardant artificial green walls.
Where Artificial Green Walls Are Used
- Hotel lobbies and corridors — reception backdrops, lift lobbies, restaurant dividers
- Retail and F&B — feature walls, fitting rooms, photo spots, brand installations
- Offices — reception walls, meeting-room acoustics, breakout areas
- Events and exhibitions — reusable backdrops that pack flat and re-hang
- Exterior facades and courtyards — balcony screening, boundary walls, entrance canopies
- Privacy and screening — terraces, pool surrounds, partition walls
Project-specific guidance lives on the application pages: hotels, offices, retail and restaurants, privacy screens, and garden walls.
How to Specify and Order
We do not publish unit prices, because the delivered cost depends on format, foliage mix, order volume, and destination. The quote path takes three steps:
- Send the area and the format. Total square metres, indoor or outdoor, and whether you want ready stock or a production run. A drawing or photo helps.
- Get a specification and a sample. We confirm the foliage mix, panel count, packing, and lead time in writing, and send a free sample panel — you pay the freight.
- Confirm and produce. Ready stock ships in 5 working days; production runs in 10–15 working days after order and specification approval. We quote DDP, FOB, or CIF, and handle door-to-door delivery for most destinations.
For volume, mixed-SKU container loading, OEM, and private label, use the wholesale page. For bespoke foliage mixes and dimensions, see custom artificial green walls.
Cost: What Actually Drives the Number
Four variables move the price more than anything else: panel format, foliage density, whether the line is UV-stabilised for outdoor use, and order volume. A dense indoor panel and a sparse outdoor panel can differ by a factor of two. We break the drivers down on the artificial green wall cost page rather than quoting a headline figure that would not survive a real enquiry.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many panels do I need for one square metre?
Four 50 × 50 cm panels cover exactly 1 m². One 100 × 100 cm panel covers 1 m² on its own. Add 5–10% for cuts and edges on walls with openings, corners, or services.
Can I mix ready-stock and production panels on the same wall?
Yes. Both formats share the same interlocking edge. Most projects use production panels for the main field and ready-stock panels to close out an area or handle a late change.
Do I need a specialist installer?
No. Panels fix with screws, clips, or cable ties to masonry, plasterboard, timber, or metal framing. A competent fit-out team handles it with a knife, a drill, and a spirit level.
What is the minimum order?
Ready stock: 1 panel, dispatched in 5 working days. Production: 50 m² per design, and designs cannot be combined to reach the minimum.
How long does it last outdoors?
Outdoor lines carry a 3-year anti-fade warranty under full sun; indoor lines 5 years. In shaded or temperate positions, service life runs considerably longer with occasional rinsing.
Is it suitable for a facade?
Yes, with the right fixing method and material grade. Facades need mechanical fixing to a sub-frame and a UV grade matched to the exposure. Send us the elevation and we will specify both.
Do you provide test reports?
Yes. SGS UV exposure reports and EN 13501-1 fire test reports for the relevant constructions are supplied on request, matched to the SKU you order.
Can you match a specific planting palette?
Yes. Send a planting plan, reference photo, or a Pantone-style colour direction. Custom mixes typically start from 200 panels with a free sample before the bulk run.
Ready to price a wall? Email [email protected] with the area, the format, and the destination — we reply within 24 hours. Or request a free sample panel first and test it on site.
