Hotel Facade Project, Qatar

Artificial greenery was added to every window box across a hotel elevation in Qatar after the building had already been handed over. The installation was completed from a boom lift, without adding an irrigation line, pump or new drainage route through the finished facade.

When irrigation is not practical

Retrofitting live planting after handover can mean new pipework, pumps, drainage and ongoing access for a maintenance crew. This project needed a finished facade to look complete without reopening the building envelope. A modular artificial hanging planter arrangement provided a clean, repeatable installation that could be secured to the existing window boxes.

What went into each window box

Each set combines upright foliage with cascading vines so the arrangement reads as planting from street level while staying light enough for facade work. The composition uses seven varieties and 17 pieces per set:

  • Green Alocasia ×3
  • Podocarpus ×2
  • Dianthus ×3
  • Agave ×3
  • Hanging Pothos ×2
  • Hanging Ivy ×2
  • Hanging Persian Foliage ×2

Why the overhang is held at 30–45 cm

The measured overhang keeps the greenery visible below each sill without blocking the window opening or creating a heavy visual band. The final projection can be adjusted to suit the sill depth, viewing distance and local wind exposure after the dimensions are confirmed.

Where this approach fits

This facade treatment is suited to hotels, serviced apartments, restaurants and other commercial properties where irrigation is unavailable or maintenance access is limited. It also works for retrofit projects that need a finished appearance with minimal disruption to the building.
