Artificial Green Wall Materials: What the Panels Are Made Of
Kort svar: All Weather Greens panels are made from 100% virgin low-density polyethylene (LDPE) with a UV stabiliser compounded into the granules during extrusion, mounted on a grid backing. The flame-retardant range uses a modified compound tested to EN 13501-1 B-s2,d0. Nothing in the panel depends on a surface coating that can wash or wear off.
This page is the technical reference behind the product pages: what the material is, how the UV system works, what the fire rating covers, and which numbers we publish and which we do not.
What the leaves and stems are made from
The foliage is virgin LDPE. Virgin means the resin has not been through a previous melt cycle: the polymer chains are full length, which is what gives the leaf its flexibility and its resistance to cracking at the fold. Regrind — recycled production scrap — has already been broken down once, so its chains are shorter and it carries microscopic contamination that acts as a stress point. A panel made with regrind looks identical on day one and fails earlier outdoors.
This is the one material decision that cannot be inspected visually, which is why it belongs in a supplier questionnaire rather than in a photograph.
UV-Core: the stabiliser is inside the plastic, not on it
UV-Core is our internal name for the UV system: the stabiliser is compounded into the granules before the leaf is formed, so it is distributed through the section rather than sitting as a film on the surface.
The difference matters outdoors. A coating protects the surface only; once it is abraded by cleaning, dust or handling, the plastic underneath is unprotected and fading starts at the worn points — usually the outer leaves, which is exactly where it is most visible. A compounded stabiliser cannot be worn off, because there is no separate layer to wear.
- Outdoor warranty — 3 years on the standard range.
- 5-year outdoor UV grade — available for projects that specify it. Say so at enquiry stage; it is a production decision, not an upgrade added later.
- Indoor warranty — 5 years.
- What we do not publish — a colour-fastness number (ΔE) or an expected year count for a specific city. Fading depends on irradiance, orientation and shade, so a single number would be a guess dressed up as a specification. Why artificial green walls fade explains what actually drives it.
FR-Core: what the flame-retardant range actually covers
FR-Core is the flame-retardant compound used in part of the range. Two products carry it and are tested to EN 13501-1:2018, class B-s2,d0. The rest of the range is not FR-rated.
Reading the classification: B is the burning behaviour class, s2 is smoke production (s1 is the lowest band, s3 the highest) og d0 means no burning droplets. d0 is the part most often missed in tenders, and it is the part that matters above an escape route.
Two things to check before you accept any supplier’s fire claim, including ours:
- Does the report name the product you are buying, or a different one from the same factory?
- Is the classification quoted as a Euroclass under EN 13501-1, or as a test-method result from another standard? They are not interchangeable.
The test report for the two FR products is available on request — see brandhæmmende kunstige grønne vægge for the full explanation of the classes.
The backing grid and how panels join
Each panel is built on a grid backing that holds the stems at a fixed spacing. That is what makes coverage predictable: 0.25 m² per 50 × 50 cm panel (four per square metre) and 1 m² per 100 × 100 cm panel. Panels butt edge to edge and the grid keeps the rows aligned, so a long wall reads as one surface rather than as a tiled grid.
Format and construction are covered in more detail on the kunstige grønne vægpaneler side.
Farve: match against a panel, not a screen
Green is the hardest colour family to judge on a monitor. The same code reads olive on one screen and mint on another, and printed swatches shift again. Before a large order, request a physical sample and approve the tone on the panel you will actually receive. 50 × 50 cm stock designs are available as samples from a single panel.

What we do not test, and will not quote
If a tender asks for a number we have not measured, we say so. The alternative — quoting a figure from another product, another factory or another standard — is how specifiers end up with a wall that fails at handover.
- Acoustic absorption (NRC or αw) — not tested. A green wall adds mass and breaks up a flat surface, but that is not a measured acoustic rating. Where a project has a specified NRC, treat the wall as a finish and specify a tested acoustic system for the performance.
- VOC emissions and indoor air quality — not tested. We will not claim a certificate we do not hold.
- Biodegradability or compostability — not claimed. The panels are a durable plastic product, not a disposable one.
- Colour-fastness ΔE — not published, for the reason given above.
Documents you can request
- EN 13501-1 test report — FR products only, and it names the product tested.
- UV resistance test report for the standard range.
- Product data sheet per design, with panel dimensions and coverage.
- Physical sample panel — free, from the 50 × 50 cm stock range.
- Packing list and container loading plan for volume orders.
Ask for any of these with the design code and the destination country, and we will send the set that applies to that combination rather than a generic pack.
Ofte stillede spørgsmål
Are the panels made of PVC?
Nej. The leaf and stem material is polyethylene — virgin LDPE. PVC and PE behave differently outdoors and are not interchangeable when a specification names one of them.
Does the UV protection wash off?
Nej. The stabiliser is compounded into the granules during extrusion, so it is part of the material rather than a coating on it. There is no separate layer to wash, wipe or abrade away.
Can I get the flame-retardant grade in every design?
Nej. Two products in the range carry the FR compound and are tested to B-s2,d0. The rest of the range is not FR-rated, so check the design code before a tender names this wall as the FR element.
Do you publish an acoustic rating?
Nej. Acoustic absorption has not been tested, so we do not quote an NRC or αw figure. Treat the wall as a visual and zoning finish, and specify a tested acoustic product where a number is required.
