Confirm this at quotation stage rather than on site.

How to install an artificial green wall: the sequence

1. Survey the wall and confirm the substrate

Walk the wall, check it for plumb and level, and identify what you are fixing into. Note any services — sockets, downpipes, vents, alarms — that must stay accessible. Mark the panel grid on the wall at this stage in pencil or chalk; getting it right here is what saves trimming later.

2. Set out the panel grid

Start from a corner or a datum line that the client will actually see, not from the least visible edge. Panels butt together, so the grid needs to land so that the last column is the one you trim — never the first. On a 100 × 100 cm module, a 4.2 m wall is four full panels plus a 20 cm return; on a 50 × 50 cm module the same wall is eight full panels plus a 20 cm return, which usually reads better because the trimmed strip is proportionally narrower.

If the wall has a doorway, window or signage, set the grid so the panel joints fall symmetrically around it. Asymmetry at a doorway is the detail that makes an otherwise good installation look cheap.

3. Install the subframe or battens — if the substrate needs one

Direct fixing to a sound masonry or concrete wall is the fastest route. Where the substrate is uneven, is plasterboard, or needs a services void, a subframe or batten layer is the better answer: it gives you a true plane to fix to, keeps the panel face flat, and lets you run cables or irrigation-free lighting behind the greenery.

For exterior work, use a subframe material that will not corrode and leave a drainage and ventilation gap behind the panel. Trapped moisture behind a green wall is the mechanism behind most premature failures, and it is entirely avoidable at this stage.

4. Fix the panels

Work in one direction from your datum, keeping the panel edges tight and the foliage lying in the same direction across the whole elevation. Panels are light, so a two-person team covers a feature wall in hours rather than weeks — but resist the temptation to rush the first column, because everything after it inherits that alignment.

Check the face for flatness as you go with a straight edge. A panel that is 5 mm proud at column two will be visibly bowed by column six.

5. Trim, weave and detail the edges

Cut the final column and any cut-outs with a sharp blade against a straight edge, then weave the cut foliage back over the trimmed edge so no backing or cut stem is visible. The same applies at the top rail, the bottom and any reveal: fold, tuck and blend rather than leaving a straight mechanical edge.

Detail the perimeter before you tidy up, not after. Once the site is clean it is much harder to justify going back to a top rail.

6. Check, clean and hand over

Stand back and look along the wall from both ends and from the main viewing angle. Fluff any foliage that was compressed in transit or by handling — this takes minutes and is the difference between “installed” 그리고 “finished”. Remove offcuts and dust, then hand over.

Flame-retardant and UV-stabilised performance are separate requirements and are not automatically present in the same panel. If your project needs a reaction-to-fire classification, say so at enquiry stage and we will confirm what documentation we hold and what it covers — EN 13501-1 documentation is available on request.

Five mistakes that show up on handover day

  1. Grid set from the wrong corner. Trimming the first column instead of the last leaves an obvious narrow strip at the most visible end.
  2. No subframe where the wall is uneven. The panels follow the wall, so any bow in the substrate becomes a bow in the greenery.
  3. Cut edges left exposed. Backing and cut stems visible at a reveal are the single clearest sign of an amateur installation.
  4. No ventilation gap outside. Trapping moisture behind an exterior panel shortens its life and is invisible until it is expensive.
  5. Foliage not dressed after fixing. Ten minutes with your hands at the end changes how the finished wall reads.

Maintenance after installation

관수 설비가 없고, no feeding, no pruning and no plant replacement. An occasional dusting or a low-pressure rinse is the entire maintenance plan. On exterior walls, a rinse before and after the dusty season keeps the foliage looking fresh, and it is worth writing that into the client’s facilities schedule as a single line item rather than assuming someone will do it.

자주 묻는 질문

How long does installing an artificial green wall take?

A straightforward interior feature wall is a matter of hours for a two-person team, plus any subframe work. Exterior elevations and walls that need a services void or extensive trimming take longer. The installation itself is rarely the critical path — delivery and site access usually are.

Can I install panels directly onto a wall without a subframe?

예, on a sound, flat substrate — masonry, concrete or a solid rendered wall. You need a subframe where the substrate is uneven, where it is plasterboard or lightweight cladding, or where you need a void. For exterior work, use corrosion-resistant fixings and leave a ventilated gap.

What is the lead time if I order panels for a project?

Production runs on 15–25 calendar days after order and specification approval, with shipping time additional. Ready-stock 50 × 50 cm panels ship without a production wait. If your programme is tight, tell us the installation date at enquiry stage and we will tell you honestly whether it works.

Do I need special tools?

Standard trade tools. A sharp blade and a straight edge for trimming, a spirit level and straight edge for alignment, and the appropriate fixings for your substrate and fixing method. No specialist equipment and no horticultural knowledge.

What happens if a panel arrives damaged?

Tell us before installation with photographs of the panel and the packaging. Panels ship in cartons with packing documentation, and claims are handled against that record — which is also why it is worth photographing the crate on arrival on any container order.
